The following symbols are commonly used in the BNF:
- Less Suitable to prescribe:
- Single-Use Medication:
- Newly Licensed Medications:
- Not Prescribed in the NHS:
- Prescription-Only Medications (POMs):
- Pharmacy-only medication:
- Patient Group Direction (PGD): e.g., Flu jab
- Patient Specific Direction (PSD): Written instructions signed by a prescriber for a specific prescription, e.g., Vitamin B12 injections.
