Maternity Certification
- MAT B1 form for pregnancy entitlements like SMP & Maternity allowance
- Proof of pregnancy needs to be given within 21 days of the SMP start date.
- This should be given within 20 weeks before the due date.
- Eligibility for Statutory Maternity Pay: Minimum 26 weeks of employment, which does not need to be consecutive. Continues into the ‘qualifying week’, which is the 15th week before the expected week of childbirth
- Payment: Maximum 39 weeks
- Duration: 52 weeks, you don’t have to take all 52 weeks, but you must take 2 weeks leave after the child is born (4 weeks if they work in a factory)
- Can start 11 weeks before delivery
- If the patient cannot get an SMP, they may be eligible for Maternity Allowance
