Important Drug Monitoring Requirements

DMARDs (Methotrexate):

• FBC, LFT, U&E: 1-2 weekly initially, then 2-3 Monthly

DMARDSs (Azathioprine):

• FBC and LFT before treatment
• FBC at 4 weeks

Levothyroxine:

• Annual TSH

Statins:

• Baseline LFTs
• Repeat at 3 months and 12 months

ACE inhibitors:

• U&E before treatment
• 1-2 weeks after starting
• When increasing dose
• Annual monitoring

Amiodarone:

• Baseline: LFTs, TFTs, U&E, chest X-ray
• LFT and TFT: 6-12 Monthly
• Annual chest X-ray
• Monitor for visual changes (optic neuritis)

Lithium:

• Levels checked 3 monthly (range 0.6-1)
• Calcium, U&E, TFT: 6 monthly

Carbimazole:

FBC monitoring (for agranulocytosis)   – Managed in secondary care
