Treatment Plan
Conservative measures:

• Humidified air
• Simple cough syrups
• Encourage coughing (for a moist cough)

Medical management:

• Codeine syrup
• Morphine (Consider antiemetics and laxatives with opioid use)
• Saline nebulisers
• Mucolytics: carbocysteine (contraindicated in peptic ulcers)

– Stop mucolytics if there is no improvement within 4 weeks

• Review/adjust ACE inhibitors if causative COMPLICATIONS
• Haemodynamic instability
• Vessel rupture
• Subconjunctival haemorrhage
• Epistaxis
• Haemoptysis
• Stress incontinence
• Hernias
• Vomiting
• Muscle strain
• Syncope
• Headaches
• Pneumothorax
