Treatment Plan

Self-management:

• Simple emollients
• Avoid irritants and tight-fitting clothes Antifungals:
• Oral azoles: fluconazole 150mg single dose
• If contraindicated: imidazole’s (e.g. clotrimazole pessary)
• Topical imidazole’s (e.g. clotrimazole) for vulval symptoms Recurrent cases:
• Induction: 3 doses of oral fluconazole within 72 hours
• Maintenance: Oral fluconazole weekly for 6 months
• Pregnant: clotrimazole pessary instead of oral fluconazole PROGNOSIS
• May recur (≥4 episodes/year)
