Self-management:
- Shower rather than bathe
- Gentle drying (hairdryer/soft dabbing)
- Avoid triggers/tight garments/irritants
Medical management:
Emollients once daily
Consider if sleep impacted
Sedating antihistamines: chlorphenamine, hydroxyzine
- Amitriptyline
- Short course low-dose corticosteroids +/- antifungal/antibacterial if infection suspected
- Lichen simplex: Potent/very potent corticosteroids
Referral criteria:
- 2-week wait for suspected malignancy
- VIN
- Lichen sclerosis
- Lichen planus
