Treatment Plan
- Asymptomatic non-pregnant: No treatment required
- Symptomatic:
- Oral metronidazole
- If not tolerated: Metronidazole gel or clindamycin cream
(Avoid clindamycin cream in 1st trimester of pregnancy)
- If symptoms persist, consider an alternative diagnosis Pregnant: Consider retesting within 1 month
- Test for other STIs:
o High vaginal swab: Trichomonas vaginalis, vaginal candidiasis, BV
o Blood tests: Syphilis, HIV
o Vulvovaginal swab: Chlamydia, gonorrhoea
