Treatment Plan

Conservative:

• Keep Eye lubricated
  o Eye hydration (consider artificial tears)
  o Eye closure at night if impaired Medical:
• Prednisolone 50mg daily for 10 days (if within 72 hours)
• Consider antiviral medication (specialist discussion)
• Followed up by ophthalmology Referral needed:
• Urgent:
  • Upper motor neuron signs
    o Trauma
    o Cancer suspicion
  • Acute systemic/severe local infection
• Routine:
  • Ocular symptoms did not improve after 3 weeks
  • Worsening/progressing symptoms
    o Atypical symptoms
  • Ocular symptoms (pain/itch/irritation)
    o Incomplete recovery of symptoms in 3 months
  • Existing neuro signs that are worsening or new signs developing
