VZV IgG test: check immunity status if required (pregnancy/breastfeeding)
TREATMENT PLAN
Conservative management:
• Paracetamol
• Rest
• Adequate fluids
• Calamine lotion: pruritus
• Chlorphenamine: nocturnal pruritus (avoid if <1 year)
Antiviral therapy:
Consider if:
• Immunocompromised
• Breastfeeding
• Adolescents at increased risk
• Present within 24 hours of onset
Pregnancy management:
• Check immunity status
• If negative: consider VZIG (through secondary care)
• Specialist advice is required before VZIG administration
