Treatment Plan
TREATMENT PLAN
Conservative:
Hot applications for 3-4 days until drainage occurs
Medical management: Antibiotic options:
- Flucloxacillin
- Clarithromycin
- Erythromycin (if pregnant)
Decontamination:
- Naseptin cream
- Chlorhexidine 4% antiseptic – hemi scrub
Additional measures:
- Hygiene measures advised
- Always treat with antibiotics if PVL-SA
- Consider staphylococcal decolonisation
Referral:
Urgent same-day I&D needed for:
- Carbuncles
- Fluctuant boils
