PREVALENCE
Common in the postpartum period
ETIOLOGY
- Breast pain: engorgement, blocked ducts, infections, mastitis, abscess
- Nipple pain: physiological disruption, nipple damage, blocked ducts, infections, skin conditions, vasospasm (Raynaud’s)
- Low milk supply: true low supply, maternal prolactin decrease, suboptimal positioning/attachment
- Oversupply: physiological or positioning/attachment issues
