Emergency contraception is used to prevent unintended pregnancies after contraceptive failure or unprotected intercourse. It is indicated in various scenarios, including: • Unprotected intercourse on any day of the menstrual cycle after incorrect use of regular contraception. • From 21 days after childbirth, unless LAM is being used. • From day 5 after miscarriage, ectopic pregnancies, uterine evacuation, and gestational trophoblastic disease. Sperm can survive in the uterus for up to 5 days after unprotected intercourse, making timing critical for the effectiveness of emergency contraception.
