Preeclampsia:
Hand/feet/face swelling
Hypertension
Shortness of breath
Vomiting
Visual changes
- Headaches
INVESTIGATIONS & DIAGNOSIS
Routine antenatal appointments:
- First pregnancy: 10 appointments
- Subsequent pregnancies: 7 appointments
Scans:
- Dating scan: 11+2 to 14+1 weeks
- Fetal anomaly scan: 18-20+6 weeks
Initial appointment:
- BP
- Urinalysis for protein
- FBC
- BMI
- Blood group
- Rhesus status
Screening:
- Infections: chlamydia, HIV, hepatitis B
- Haemoglobinopathies: sickle cell, thalassemia Fetal anomaly: Down’s, Edwards, Patau syndromes
25 weeks onwards:
- Symphysis-fundal height measurement at each appointment
- Plot on the growth chart
- Ultrasound if small for gestational age
36 weeks:
- Fetal position assessment
- Ultrasound for breech presentation
