Simple fall: distinct from collapse
- Result of chronic impairment affecting mobility, vision, balance, cognition
- Different from collapse, which results from acute medical problems (arrhythmias, vertigo, TIA, stroke)
Prevalence
- 30% of those over 65 fall at least once yearly
- 50% of those over 80 fall within 1 year
Etiology
Multifactorial causes affecting:
- Mobility
- Vision
- Balance
- Cognition
