Conservative:
- PRICE protocol: Protect, Rest, Ice, Compress, Elevate
- Simple analgesia
- 1-week review if needed
- Consider referral if no better or unsure of diagnosis
Prognosis
Complications:
- Chronic joint instability
- Loss of function
- Chronic pain + swelling
- Muscle atrophy
- Post-injury osteoarthritis
- Haemarthrosis
- Complex regional pain syndrome
- Charcot arthropathy (if diabetic)
