- Common in the first 6 months (50% of infants)
- Usually resolves by 12-15 months
- Symptoms: non-projectile effortless vomiting, poor feeds, feeding reluctance, back arching, crying at feeding times
- Rule out overfeeding (>150ml/kg/day if <6 months)
Management
- Use conservative measures before moving to the below treatment: positioning during & after feeding, and preventing overfeeding Breastfed: Infant Gaviscon trial for 2 weeks
- Bottle-fed:
- Anti-reflux formula for 2 weeks
- Consider thickened formula (Carobel) for 2 weeks
- Stop the thickened formula and try the Infant Gaviscon trial for 2 weeks
- DO NOT prescribe thickeners or antacids with anti-reflux formulas.
- Secondary care referral if no improvement
