Ovarian Cancer

• • Incidence: 7,000 cases annually
  • Urgent referral criteria:
    • Pelvic/abdominal mass on physical examination
  • Carry out tests in primary care if aged >50 with any of these persistent symptoms for
    >12 months:
    • Abdominal bloating
    • Early satiety and fullness
    • Pelvic and abdominal pain
    • Increased urinary frequency/urgency

• Consider tests for – unexplained weight loss, fatigue, or changes in bowel habits
• Primary care investigations:
  • Urine dipstick for frequency/urgency
  • CA125 tumour marker:
    • If >35 IU/mL: urgent abdominal & pelvic ultrasound: if this is suggestive of ovarian cancer do a 2-week cancer referral
