Symptoms & Prognosis
Symptoms
- Bone marrow failure: pallor, lethargy, SOB
- Neutropenia: mouth/throat/skin infections, fever
- Thrombocytopenia: spontaneous bruising, heavy bleeding
- Organ infiltration: lymphadenopathy (>50%), hepatosplenomegaly (70%), bone pain, skin infiltration (AML only), testicular enlargement
- Respiratory symptoms from mediastinal lymph node infiltration
- Gum hypertrophy
Prognosis
- Childhood ALL: 88% 5-year survival – Adult ALL: 40% 5-year survival
- AML <55 years: 40% 5-year survival
- AML >55 years: <20% 5-year survival
