TREATMENT PLAN, PROGNOSIS & KEY INFORMATION
TREATMENT PLAN
Urgent referral indicated for:
- Syncope
- Exercise-precipitated symptoms
- First-degree relative with sudden cardiac death – Second/third-degree AV block
Routine referral for: – Chest pain 
- Light-headedness
- Structural heart issues
- Abnormal resting ECG
- History of sustained
tachyarrhythmias Figure 4 – 10 most known ECG rhythms
No referral is needed if:
- Isolated episode
- Normal ECG
- No exercise relation
- No serious symptoms
- No structural manifestations
- No family history of sudden cardiac death
PROGNOSIS
- Varies based on the underlying cause
- Serious arrhythmias associated with: ischaemic heart disease, heart failure, cardiomyopathies, valvular disease
KEY INFORMATION
DVLA requirements:
- Type 1 licence: 4 weeks if uncontrolled/unidentified cause – Type 2 licence: 3 months if uncontrolled/unidentified cause.
