Throat swabs are indicated only if:

• Suspected outbreak
• Uncertain diagnosis
• Contact with high-risk groups (e.g. healthcare workers)
• Severe illness
• Serious complications expected

Differential diagnosis:

• Kawasaki disease: > 5-day fever, non-blanching erythematous rash, skin peeling of hands/feet, bilateral conjunctivitis, strawberry tongue, cervical lymphadenopathy
