Herpes Simplex Virus 1 (HSV-1) keratitis: viral inflammation of the cornea caused by HSV-
1 reactivation from the trigeminal ganglia
Etiology
HSV-1 reactivation from the dormant state in the trigeminal ganglia Other causes of keratitis:
- Bacterial (most common): Staphylococcus aureus
- Photosensitivity: UV light exposure
- Fungal
- Contact lens-related
- Environmental exposure
