Signs & Symptoms
| Definition: Inflammation of the thin layer of vascular tissue overlying the sclera.
Symptoms: unilateral in 75% of cases, painless red eye, no discharge Treatment: Consider referral if not settling in a week or if 1st line treatment is ineffective (NSAID – Ibuprofen 400mg TDS / Ketrololac 0.5% eye drops QDS) and therefore possible steroid drops may be needed. |
- Painful red-eye
- Blurred vision
- Watery eye
- Photophobia
- Periocular vesicles/ulcers (HSV-1 specific)
- Hazy cornea/corneal opacification
- Fixed pupils
- Dendritic ulcer (HSV-1 specific)
