Treatment Plan
Conservative:
- Topical lubricants for pain
- Simple analgesia for pain
- Chloramphenicol for 5 days if infection suspected
- Chemical injuries: normal saline irrigation 20-30 mins
Follow up:
- Review within 24-48 hours
Immediate referral criteria:
- Ocular foreign body if not competently removed
- Chemical injuries requiring irrigation
- Sharp/penetrating object injuries
- High-velocity injuries
- Signs of periocular trauma
Prognosis
- Usually heals within 2 days
