Definition
Age-related macular degeneration (ARMD): a progressive degenerative condition affecting central vision
Prevalence
Commonly occurs in people over 50 years old. It is the most common cause of blindness.
Etiology
Classification:
- Early ARMD: drusen and pigmentation changes
- Late ARMD: intermediate, wet active, dry, and wet inactive forms
- Wet active: neovascularisation
- Dry: geographic atrophy
- Wet inactive: fibrosis
