Inflammation of the middle ear associated with effusion (this is different from OM w/effusion, also known as OME, as this is not related to acute OM signs and symptoms).
PREVALENCE
Common in ages 0-4 years, less frequent in adults
Predominant in winter months

Bacterial or viral infection
