DEFINITION
- Painless otorrhoea +/- hearing loss secondary to TM perforation (complication of AOM)
FEATURES
- Hearing loss can impact language & development in children
- If left untreated, it can spread (RARE) and thus lead to certain complications:
- Extra-cranially: facial paralysis/mastoiditis
- Intracranially: meningitis/cranial abscess
- If it is suspected, do an ENT referral (Don’t swab/start treatment)
- Reassure that the TM perforation should heal but if not, it needs a refe
