DEFINITION

• The sensation of the room spinning
• Can be peripheral or central in origin

PREVALENCE

• BPPV, Meniere’s and vestibular neuronitis most common in primary care

ETIOLOGY
Peripheral causes:

• BPPV: positional, short-term, recurrent
• Meniere’s disease: quadruple symptoms
• Vestibular neuronitis: associated with nystagmus, positive head impulse test
• Labyrinthitis: post-viral, sudden onset with hearing loss

Central causes:

• MS
•  Cerebral tumours
• Stroke/TIA
• Vestibular migraine
