Immediate referral required:
- Sudden onset sensorineural loss within 30 days: steroids 1mg/kg or 60mg daily for 7 days +
PPI - Unilateral loss with focal neurology
- Associated head/neck injury
- Serious infections
Urgent ENT referral:
- Sensorineural loss >30 days ago
- Rapidly progressive without other signs
2-week cancer pathway:
- Associated head/neck cancer symptoms
Routine referral:
- Gradual onset
- Unilateral with hyperacusis
- Fluctuating intensity
- Non-age-related
- Associated with pulsatile/persistent/changing tinnitus
- Associated with vertigo
