Definition
Undescended testis (cryptorchidism): Testis fails to reach the normal scrotal position
Prevalence
- 30% of bilateral cases
- 80% palpable
Etiology
Types:
- True undescended: Normal path but fails to reach the scrotum
- Ectopic: Beyond the normal path
- Ascending: Previously in the scrotum moves up
- Absent/Atrophic: Present at birth, later disappears, becoming non-palpable
