Investigations & Diagnosis
- Diagnosis and staging (using KDIGO classification) depend on Serum Cr +/- Urine output (AKI warning results from lab results are based upon Cr changes compared to the patient’s baseline).
Diagnostic criteria:
- Serum creatinine increase ≥26 micromol/L within 48hrs
- >50% creatinine increases within 7 days
- Urine output <0.5ml/kg/hr for >6hrs
Baseline creatinine determination:
- Lowest value from past 7 days
- If >7 days: lowest/mean value from 7 days-1 year
Watch for false positives:
- Recent pregnancy
- CKD progression
- Trimethoprim treatment
