Definition
Bacterial infection affecting the urinary tract
- Can be uncomplicated or complicated o Uncomplicated: Non-pregnant women
- Complicated: Pregnant Women, Indwelling catheter, Anatomical/functional abnormality of the urinary tract, Renal disease, Immunocompromised
- Can be a low UTI or an upper UTI (pyelonephritis)
Prevalence
- coli accounts for 77% of UTIs in women
Etiology
- Bacterial infection Recurrent UTIs:
- Relapse with the same strain or reinfection with a different strain o ≥ 2 in 6 months / ≥3 in 1 year
