Treatment Plan

Referral pathways:

• Urgent (24-hour) referral to paediatrics: Bilateral undescended testes at birth Abnormal sexual development at birth
• 2-week referral:
  Bilateral undescended testes at 6-8 weeks
• Standard pathway:
  Unilateral undescended testes at birth/72-hour check
  Review at 6-8 weeks
  If persistent, review 4-5 months
  If still undescended, refer for surgery at 6 months

Surgical options:

• Palpable: Orchidopexy
• Non-palpable: Inguinal exploration

Prognosis

Complications if untreated:

• Testicular cancer
• Inguinal hernia
• Testicular torsion
• Reduced fertility
