Definition, Prevalence & Etiology
Definition
• The spectrum of liver disease is associated with increased insulin resistance
• Usually asymptomatic
• Can range from simple steatosis to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH)
Prevalence
• More common in Hispanic and Asian populations
Etiology
• Primary development: simple steatosis & NASH
• Secondary causes:
- Medications: amiodarone, tamoxifen
- Medical conditions: Hepatitis C, PCOS
