Investigations & Diagnosis
Acute diarrhoea (<14 days):
• Stool samples if: (the sample must be quarter full)
– Systemically unwell
– Blood/pus in stool
– Immunosuppressed
– Recent antibiotics/PPI use
– Recent travel: include ova, cysts, parasites
Chronic diarrhoea (>4 weeks):
• Blood tests: FBC, ferritin, folate, B12, calcium, LFTs, TFTs, U&Es
• Coeliac screen
• CA125
• Faucal calprotectin
• Stool sample with ova, cysts, parasites
• FIT test
