Key Information
• Breastfed infants may normally have infrequent stools
– Red flags:
• Constipation within days of birth: Consider Hirschsprung’s
• Delayed meconium >48hrs: Consider cerebral palsy/Hirschsprung’s
• Abdominal distension/vomiting: Consider intestinal obstruction/Hirschsprung’s
• Ribbon stools: consider anal stenosis if <1yr
• Motor delay/weakness: Consider neurospinal issues
