Treatment Plan & Prognosis
Treatment Plan
Conservative:
• Gluten-free diet (primary treatment)
Monitoring:
• Annual bloods: FBC, ferritin, TFTs, U&Es, vitamin D, calcium, B12, folate
• DEXA scan if FRAX indicates osteoporosis risk
Preventative:
• Vaccinations: influenza, meningococcal, pneumococcal (especially if
immunosuppressed, e.g. those with Hyposplenism)
Prognosis
Complications:
• Decreased quality of life
• Faltering growth
• Anaemia
• Decreased bone density
• Hyposplenism
• Malignancy risks: small bowel adenocarcinoma, lymphomas
• Refractory disease possible
