RISK FACTORS
- Family history
- Genetic mutations (BRCA1, BRCA2, TP53)
- Bilateral breast cancer
- Male breast cancer
- Ovarian cancer
- Jewish ancestry
- Sarcoma < 45 years
- Glioma
- Childhood adrenocortical carcinomas
- Multiple cancers at a young age
- Breast cancer in paternal lineage
INVESTIGATIONS & DIAGNOSIS
- Breast cancer screening
- Genetic testing for BRCA1, BRCA2, TP53
TREATMENT PLAN
- Specialist referral indicated for:
- Confirmed genetic mutations
- Significant family history meeting guidelines (sex, age, ovarian cancer, number of relatives)
- Age >40 with specific family history patterns
- Contraceptive considerations:
- Family history only: UKMEC1 for all contraceptives
- Known genetic carriers: UKMEC3 for CHC (avoid), Copper IUD: UKMEC1
- HRT is absolutely contraindicated in:
- Suspected breast cancer o Confirmed breast cancer o Previous breast cancer.
