- Increased age
SIGNS & SYMPTOMS
- Heavy menstrual bleeding
- Painful bleeding
- Abdominal/pelvic discomfort
- Pressure symptoms
- Dyspareunia
- Compression symptoms:
- Urinary: frequency, urgency, UTIs, retention, incontinence
- Bowel: constipation, pain, bloating
INVESTIGATIONS & DIAGNOSIS
- Abdominal examination
- Bimanual pelvic examination: firm, irregular, non-tender masses
- Ultrasound: identifies number, size, location – FBC: assess for iron deficiency anaemia
- Consider the erythrocyte sedimentation rate.
