Suspect if:
- Acute cough >14 days without an obvious cause
- Paroxysmal cough
- Inspiratory whoop
- Post-tussive vomiting
- Apnoea episodes
Laboratory confirmation:
- Culture: NPA/NPS for all ages with a 14-day cough
- PCR: all ages
- Serology: IgG >1700 units/ml suggestive (adults >16 years, 14-day cough, >1 year postvaccination)
- Oral fluid serology: ages 2-16 years, >14-day cough, >1 year post-vaccination
