Signs & Symptoms

Viral-induced wheeze:

• Occurs 6 months to 5 years
• Self-limiting
• Fever settles in 3-7 days – Cough settles < 3 weeks

Asthma exacerbation:

• It can occur at any age
• Wheeze
• No crepitations
• Increased respiratory rate

Bronchiolitis:

• Occurs in the first 12 months, mainly 3-6 months
• Mixed chest signs: wheezing and crepitations
• Increased respiratory rate
• Hyperinflation of lungs
• 3-7 day symptoms
• Self-limiting

Pneumonia:

• Crepitations
• Less likely to have wheezes
• Antibiotics if infection present
