Signs & Symptoms
Viral-induced wheeze:
- Occurs 6 months to 5 years
- Self-limiting
- Fever settles in 3-7 days – Cough settles < 3 weeks
Asthma exacerbation:
- It can occur at any age
- Wheeze
- No crepitations
- Increased respiratory rate
Bronchiolitis:
- Occurs in the first 12 months, mainly 3-6 months
- Mixed chest signs: wheezing and crepitations
- Increased respiratory rate
- Hyperinflation of lungs
- 3-7 day symptoms
- Self-limiting
Pneumonia:
- Crepitations
- Less likely to have wheezes
- Antibiotics if infection present
