Definition
• Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
• Characterised by hyperactivity, inattention and impulsivity
• Symptoms present Duration >6 months, present in 2+ settings (home/school/work) &
Interferes with daily life
Prevalence
• Accounts for 5% of children worldwide
• Typically appears between 3-7 years of age
• More common in boys
• Higher prevalence in the lower socioeconomic class
Etiology
• Must exclude other causes: trauma, abuse, epilepsy, learning difficulties, anxiety,
hearing problems
