Treatment Plan
Primary care:
• Structured brief advice using the FRAMES principle
• Extended brief advice
• Psychological interventions
• Prophylactic thiamine for harmful/dependent users
Urgent referral required for:
• Wernicke’s: IV thiamine
• Failed structured/extended brief advice
• Signs of alcohol-related impairment
• Severe dependence
Monitoring:
• Follow-up
• Watch for withdrawal complications:
- Seizures (48-72 hours)
- Delirium tremens (12-24 hours)
