Epididymitis/Orchitis

• Cause: commonly linked with age o Prepubertal (usually idiopathic and self-limiting, do a urine sample in these cases)
  • Sexually active age (14 – 35, think STI, do first void urine sample) o > 35 with a low sexual history (usually a UTI caused by E. coli; do a urine sample)
• Symptoms: Scrotal pain/swelling, fever, dysuria, urethral discharge.
• Common pathogens: E. coli (in older men), STIs like gonorrhoea/chlamydia (younger men).
• Treatment: Antibiotics (specific to pathogen) – usually Ofloxacillin for 14 days, or if contraindicated, use Co-amoxiclav
