Treatment Plan
First line:
• Metronidazole 400-500mg BD for 5-7 days OR
• Single dose metronidazole 2g Specific groups:
• HIV: metronidazole 500mg BD for 7 days
• Pregnant/breastfeeding: metronidazole 400-500mg BD for 7 days Partner notification:
• Screen/treat partners (especially within the last 4 weeks of penetrative intercourse)
• Current partners require treatment Follow up:
• Review at 1 week
• Abstain from intercourse for a minimum of 1 week
• If persistent/reinfection: refer to GUM clinic
• Alternative: repeat the same antibiotic regime or a single 2g dose of metronidazole
