Hydrocele
- Definition: Accumulation of fluid around the testes.
- Types:
- Communicating: Associated with a patent processus vaginalis (common in infants – usually resolves within 12 months of age)
- Non-communicating: Usually idiopathic or secondary to trauma/infection.
- Presentation: Soft, painless swelling. Transilluminates on examination.
- Treatment: Surgical intervention if persistent.
- Referral if persistent: Communications (Paediatrics) & Non-communications (Urology)
